Swann was an American politician and businessman who served in the Kentucky House of Representatives as a Democrat from January 2023 until his death on May 14, 2023.
According to his mother, Pam Dixon, Lamin Swann, who represented District 93 in Lexington, died on Sunday (May 14) after being brought to a hospital on Tuesday (May 9).
Dixon said in a statement:
“There are no words to fully describe the grief and impossible loss that others and I feel right now after saying good-bye … to my beloved son, Lamin,”

“Beyond our faith, what comforts us is knowing the positive and lasting impact he had on so many.”
Days earlier, Dixon said her son was receiving hospital care for a “significant medical emergency” and that “during this difficult time, those of us who love him dearly are requesting both prayers and privacy.”
Swann took office on January 1, 2019, after being elected in November 2022.
According to the website of the General Assembly, he served on committees for elections, constitutional amendments, intergovernmental relations, transportation, health services, economic development, and workforce investment.
Swann proposed and supported legislation to prevent discrimination in Section 8 housing awards, to safeguard abortion access, and to repeal the Robert E. Lee Day state holiday.
Swann was admitted to the hospital on May 9, 2023, for an unidentified “medical emergency.” Five days later, on May 14, he died at the age of 45.
