Lauren Bernett was a softball player at James Madison University who died on Tuesday (April 26, 2022).

Lauren Bernett was a sophomore catcher from McDonald, Pennsylvania, was a key contributor for James Madison last season on its way to the 2021 Women’s College World Series.

Lauren Bernett was just 20 years old.

In a statement announcing her death, James Madison University said;

“College athletics is great because of the people with whom we get to interact every day.”

“We are a tight family.”

“We are grateful that Lauren has been part of our JMU Athletics community and will always consider her to be a Duke. We will miss her dearly.”

At the time of the announcement, no cause of death was given.

However, fresh reports today (April 27, 2022) indicate that Lauren Bernett’s death is being classified as an apparent suicide.

Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson indicated that Lauren Bernett’s death was being classified as an apparent suicide and that his office was still investigating her untimely death.

Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson, however, emphasized that an official report from the medical examiner’s office is pending.
