Lester Piggott was later arrested and charged with tax fraud in addition to the declaration of a false statement. According to reports, Lester Piggott failed to declare his income of over £3 million and evaded over £1.5 million tax.

In 1987, Lester Piggott was arraigned before a court and he was sentenced to three years in prison and after serving 12 months in prison, he was released.
