The video, which has been viewed over 4 million times on Twitter, shows the man pushing his hands between the cage bars to harass the animal in an attempt to impress bystanders.

The plan goes awry as the animal clamped its jaws on the worker’s fingers. Visitors at the Jamaica Zoo, near Santa Cruz in St Elizabeth, Jamaica, watched helplessly as the man swore and screamed as he fought to break free from the lion’s hold.  https://www.instagram.com/tv/Cd4y46-gAXP/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

The keeper finally ripped himself free and collapsed to the ground after several tries, but lost a finger in the process. A finger tendon was seen dropping off the lion’s jaws in the final moments of the footage, and viewers gasped in surprise.

According to a witness, they thought the attack was a joke until the man dropped to the ground. “I didn’t realise how serious it was because it’s their job to put on a show,” she explained. “The entire skin and the initial joint of his finger had vanished.”
