Lydia de Vega Husband: Who Is Paul Mercado?

Paul Mercado is widely known as the husband of Lydia de Vega-Mercado.

Paul Mercado is a former engineer at Meralco and an entrepreneur engaged in the fish pond business.

Mercado and Lydia de Vega married for a couple of years but their marriage details are obscure to the public.

The pair had three children including Stephanie Mercado. In February 2001, their four-year-old son John Michael died in a car accident.

Paul Mercado and Lydia de Vega-Mercado were still together until her death.

Lydia de Vega-Mercado was a Filipino athlete who was considered Asia’s fastest woman in the 1980s after ruling the 100-metre dash events in the 1982 and 1986 Asian Games.

The two-time Olympian represented the Philippines at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics.

De Vega retired after competing at the track and field event of the 1994 Manila-Fujian Games held in October.

De Vega was last seen by the public in 2019, as she was among the flag bearers during the opening ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian Games held at the Philippine Arena.

She died after battling breast cancer on August 10, 2022, at age 57 in Makati, Philippines.
