Magic Johnson Parents: Meet Earvin Johnson Sr., Christine Johnson

American former professional basketball player Magic Johnson is the son of Earvin Johnson Sr. and Christine Johnson.

His father Earvin Sr. was a General Motors assembly worker, and his mother Christine, was a school caretaker. Magic Johnson was influenced by his parents’ strong work ethic.

Magic Johnson had six siblings and three half-siblings from his father’s previous marriage. His mother spent many hours after work each night cleaning their home and preparing the next day’s meals, while his father did janitorial work and garbage collection at a used car lot while never missing a day at General Motors.

Magic Johnson would frequently assist his father on the garbage route, and he was teased by neighbourhood kids who referred to him as “Garbage Man.” Johnson developed an interest in basketball as a young man. Johnson comes from a sporting family.

Magic Johnson learned the finer points of the game from his father, who played high school basketball in his home state of Mississippi. Johnson’s mother, who is originally from North Carolina, also played basketball as a child and grew up watching her brothers play.
