Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani female education activist and Nobel laureate. She is the daughter of Ziauddin Yousafzai and Toor Pekai Yousafzai.

Her family is Sunni Muslim of Pashtun descent from the Yusufzai clan. Because the family could not afford a hospital birth, Yousafzai was born at home with the assistance of neighbours.
She shared a home in Mingora with her two younger brothers, Khushal and Atal, as well as her parents, Ziauddin and Tor Pekai, and two hens.

Ziauddin Yousafzai, her father, is an education activist. When his daughter, Malala, was old enough to realise that girls were not allowed to attend school at a certain age, he inspired her to stand up and speak out.

Let Her Fly is Yousafzai’s autobiography, which was released in November 2018. In his book, he recounts his fight for all children’s rights to an egalitarian education, as well as opportunities and social and political recognition.
Yousafzai and his daughter received honorary doctorates from the University of Ottawa in 2017. He and his daughter are currently co-founders and board members of the Malala Fund.
