Barnes was born on December 1, 1986, in Milwaukee, Winconsin, and has served as governor of Wisconsin since 2019.

As a democrat, he represented the state for the 11th district between 2013 to 2017.

Barnes remains the first African American to serve in that capacity.

Barnes had his education at Holy Redeemer Christian Academy in Milwaukee and John Marshall High School. He later obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Media from Alabama A&M University.
