Monk was a 4.0 student at East Poinsett County High School, where he also earned letters in basketball and football.

He was also his graduating class’s valedictorian. As a senior in 2004, he was crowned Mr. Basketball of Arkansas, received All-State honors in both sports, and was recognized as the National Football Foundation’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Marcus was an Arkansas University wide receiver. Throughout high school and college, he played football, and in 2008, the NFL drafted him. He failed to go past the practice squads, though.
