Addy’s family has lived in York since at least 1910 when his paternal great-grandfather was reported there. Ian, his father, was a glazier at York Minster. Addy was educated at York’s Joseph Rowntree School. He continued his acting studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where he earned an Acting Diploma in 1984.
Addy’s interest in acting began during his school years when he completed a three-week work placement at the York Theatre Royal. He liked it so much that he kept working there and eventually chose to pursue acting as a career.
