He then appeared in a number of other television programs, such as Trollied, The Syndicate, Peak Practice, Too Much Sun, Sunnyside Farm, Band of Gold, Married… with Children, Heartbeat, and Band of Gold.
With an exaggerated American accent, Addy played Bill Miller in Still Standing. In the second season of the British sitcom The Thin Blue Line, he also portrayed Detective Boyle. In 2009, Addy appeared in several commercials for the relaunched Tesco Clubcard alongside Fay Ripley.
He began as King Robert Baratheon in the HBO series Game of Thrones in 2011. The best audition they saw for the part, according to the showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, made Addy the easiest actor to cast for the show.
Robert was a key character in the story at first, but his binge drinking, womanizing, and hunting eventually brought about his death. In season 1, Addy’s character was eliminated during a wild boar hunting tragedy.
