Marta Kauffman parents: Meet Dorothy Kauffman and Herman Kauffman

Marta Fran Kauffman is well-known in the industry and has a storied career in American television as a writer and producer. She is well recognized for creating the well-known NBC comedy Friends with her longtime friend and colleague David Crane.

They both served as the show’s executive producers alongside Kevin Bright. Subsequently, among other TV shows, Kauffman and Crane created Veronica’s Closet and Jesse.

Kauffman also served as an executive producer on the television series Related from 2005 to 2006. Before she began working on Friends, Kauffman, and Crane produced the HBO comedy Dream On.

In more recent years, Kauffman co-created the popular Netflix series, Grace and Frankie. Without Crane, she used her inventiveness to develop and expand this well-liked show.

At Brandeis University, where she earned a BA in 1978, Kauffman followed her passion for drama as a major. At Brandeis University, she was a member of the sorority Sigma Delta Tau.

Kauffman honed her acting skills at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Drama in New York City.
