Prince George’s County Police Chief Malik Aziz and Jessica Garth, a representative from the State’s Attorney’s Office, announced the resignation of Patrick Wojahn, the mayor of College Park, Maryland, after he was detained on 56 counts of child pornography-related offenses.

The mayor of College Park was detained by Prince George’s County police on suspicion of child pornography.

Patrick Wojahn was taken into custody on Thursday morning, according to county police.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children notified the Prince George’s County Police Department on February 17 about a Kik social media account active in the county that may have had and distributed suspected child pornography in January, according to Chief Malik Aziz of the county’s police force.

According to the police, detectives determined that Wojahn is the owner of the social network account.
