Mekhi Phifer was born in New York City’s Harlem on December 29, 1974.

He had good grades and graduated from the Lincoln Square Auxiliary Services High School in 1994.
He afterward enrolled in the prestigious State University of New York in New Paltz, New York City, in the electrical engineering program. But his studies would be interrupted by his soon-to-begin acting career.
He also appeared in the film “8 Mile” beside the renowned rapper Eminem. He shot to stardom in 2002 after taking home the Rising Star prize at the American Black Film Festival.

He eventually accepted a fantastic offer to perform in six seasons of Michael Crichton’s critically acclaimed drama series “ER.”
