Melissa Marie Benoist, an American actress, singer, and producer, was born on October 4, 1988. She played Marley Rose on the Fox musical comedy-drama Glee (2012–2014), where she was a series regular for the fifth season. This was her first significant acting job. She became well-known for playing the title role on the CBS/CW superhero series Supergirl (2015–2021) and several associated Arrowverse brand properties.

Together with diva Mariah Carey, Benoist starred in Tennessee, his debut movie, in 2008. After that, while still in college, she made cameos on series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Blue Bloods, Homeland, and The Good Wife. She portrayed Kelly in the 2011 Goodspeed Musicals stage production of Bree Lowdermilk and Kait Kerrigan’s The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown at the Norma Terris Theatre.

She auditioned for the musical comedy-drama series Glee at the Roundabout Theatre Company in New York in May 2012, singing a different song for each of her five auditions, including “Fidelity” by Regina Spektor, “King of Anything” by Sara Bareilles, a Colbie Caillat song, and several musical theatre pieces.
She had two screen tests in July in California for series creator/writer Ryan Murphy, casting directors, and executive producers. She played Marley Rose on Glee’s fourth and fifth seasons. Her first appearance as Marley Rose was in “The New Rachel,” the first episode of season four. Marley started working the day she found out she got the job because the creators had been looking for her for a long time.
