Despite the Ministry of Health (MoH) urging MELPWU to end its nationwide strike, which commenced on June 17, 2024, and resume negotiations, the union continues the strike due to inadequate conditions of service for its members.
On Tuesday, June 18, the management of Manhyia Government Hospital halted scheduled surgeries and closed its operating theatre due to the MELPWU strike.

Sources from the facility mentioned that only emergency surgical cases were handled. Patients seeking laboratory services were left stranded, encountering red bands and strike notices posted at the hospital’s labs.
In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Tuesday, Dr. Franklyn Armah, First Vice Chairman of MELPWU, expressed his eagerness for a quick resolution to enable members to resume their duties.
“…I will wish that duty bearers will quickly rally around and call us to table so that we can iron the issue and so we can go back to work as quickly as possible,” he stated.
