Csikszentmihalyi married Isabella Selega in 1961. They remained married until he died on 20 October 2021.

He was a Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Management at Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California. Csíkszentmihályi received his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Chicago and has had a long and illustrious career as a researcher, author, and educator.

His most famous work, “Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience,” published in 1990, introduced the concept of flow and how it relates to human happiness and well-being.

Throughout his career, he received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the understanding of human consciousness and the pursuit of happiness.

Mihály Csikszentmihalyi’s 89th birthday was commemorated with a Google Doodle on September 29, 2023.
