Mike Hodges died at the age of 90 on 17 December 2022. Hodges’ death was confirmed by Mike Kaplan, a longtime friend. Hodges died on Saturday at his home in Dorset. There was no mention of a cause of death.
Hodges had a long career making British gangster crime dramas, including “Get Carter” in 1971; “Pulp” a year later; as well as “Croupier” in 1998; and “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” in 2003.

Despite little marketing and a limited release, Vincent Canby of the New York Times and Jay Cocks of Time magazine named “Pulp” one of the year’s ten best films.
Hodges also wrote the plays “Soft Shoe Shuffle” (1985) and “Shooting Stars and Other Heavenly Pursuits” (2000), which was adapted for BBC radio. There was also “King Trash,” a radio play (2004). “Watching the Wheels Come Off,” his first novel, was released in 2010.
