According to Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune, former first baseman Mike Ivie passed away on Friday. Ivie played for the Giants, Tigers, Astros, Padres, and Giants. He was in his seventys.

Ivie, who was selected first overall by San Diego in the 1970 MLB draft, made his MLB debut at the age of 18 in 1971 and went on to slash an amazing.471/.526/.471 in a brief six-game sample that year.

Ivie, who was originally selected as a catcher, experienced the yips early in his professional career, which necessitated him switching to first base soon after making his debut. He played in the minor leagues for the following two years until making a comeback to the majors in 1974. Ivie was the regular first baseman for the Padres from 1975 through 1977, slashing an approximately league-average.
