Conservative MP Lucy Allan has been suspended by the party after openly endorsing a Reform UK candidate, Alan Adams, in the upcoming election in Telford, Shropshire.

Ms. Allan, who won Telford in 2019 with a significant majority, stated that she decided to support Mr. Adams over the Conservative candidate, Hannah Campbell, as she believes he is the best person for the job.

“I want the best for Telford, and I can’t just let the Labour candidate have a walkover,” Ms. Allan remarked.

However, her decision to back a candidate from another party led to her immediate suspension from the Conservative Party, with a spokesman stating that she had been suspended “with immediate effect.”

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak warned against voting for Reform UK, emphasizing that it could potentially put Keir Starmer, the Labour leader, in power.

Despite the backlash, Ms. Allan stood by her decision, praising Mr. Adams as someone who is “not in it for personal advantage, power, or control over people” and whose motivation for standing is “profoundly honourable.”

In response to Ms. Allan’s support, a Reform spokesman expressed delight, stating that many Conservatives, like Ms. Allan, believe that the Reform party represents traditional center-right values and priorities that the Conservative Party has overlooked.

While Ms. Allan’s suspension has caused a stir, the Conservative Party has assured the people of Telford that they will have the opportunity to vote for a new candidate who will prioritize the interests of the constituency.
