Nigeria Prepares to Send First Civilian to Space

Dr. Mathew Adepoju, Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), unveiled this initiative during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

Adepoju attributed this milestone to the partnership between NASRDA and the Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA), highlighting their collaborative efforts in making space exploration accessible to non-military personnel.

This announcement marks a significant leap forward in Nigeria’s space ambitions, showcasing their commitment to advancing scientific research and exploration beyond Earth’s boundaries.

During the press conference, Adepoju said: “This collaboration, which is coming to the country, marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s 25th anniversary of Space Exploration journey and opens new opportunities for scientific research and technological advancement.”
