Oommen Chandy, an Indian politician and statesman, was the tenth Chief Minister of Kerala from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2011 to 2016. He died on July 18, 2023. From 2006 to 2011, he served as the opposition’s leader in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. From 1970 until his passing in 2023, he served as the Legislative Assembly’s (MLA) representative for the Puthuppally constituency in the State Assembly.

He served in the Kerala Legislative Assembly for the longest period of time and in all Indian legislative assemblies combined. He is the only Indian chief minister to get a United Nations award for public service. He held a position of prominence within the Indian National Congress.
