Nigeria’s Ella Onojuvwevwo has secured her spot in the semi-finals of the women’s 400m at the Paris Olympics.

On Tuesday, August 6 2024, morning, Onojuvwevwo finished first in heat 1 of the repechage with a time of 50.59 seconds.
Poland’s Justyna Swiety-Ersetic and Ireland’s Sharlene Mawdsley followed in second and third place, respectively.

Onojuvwevwo will now aim for a place in the final, with the semi-finals scheduled later today.

This follows her performance on Monday, August 5 2024 where she placed 6th in the third heat of the women’s 400m with a time of 51.65 seconds, falling short of automatic qualification.
Earlier this year, Onojuvwevwo set a personal best of 51.32 seconds in Florida.
She also contributed to Nigeria’s Mixed 4x400m team, which set a new national and African Continental record with a time of 3:12.87 at the 2024 World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas.
