McCollum became interested in country music after listing to classic country musicians such as Willie Nelson, Buck Owens, and Porter Wagoner.

He was then introduced to Cross Canadian Ragweed, Pat Green, and Chris Knight, before beginning to learn violin and guitar.

At aged 13, McCollum started writing his music, mixing genres such as Texas country music, Americana, and indie rock.

Following high school, McCollum migrated to Austin, where he performed as a singer-songwriter and also went on his first tour with the Texas band Six Market Blvd.

McCollum then released his first single, “Highway” on June 5, 2013, and his debut album “The Limestone Kid” on February 24, 2015.

On June 27, 2019, McCollum signed with Universal Music Group. His first single under the label was “Pretty Heart”. On October 16, 2020, McCollum released the EP, Hollywood Gold.
