Dr. Patrick Ofori, CEO of the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, has requested the Ghana Revenue Authority to explain why it instructed the Strategic Mobilisation Authority (SML) to recommence its activities in the downstream petroleum sector.

Dr. Ofori’s request follows a directive from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) to resume its monitoring activities in the downstream petroleum sector starting from June 14, 2024.
In a statement to SML, the revenue authority indicated that the directive aligns with President Akufo-Addo’s instructions based on the KPMG report.

Dr. Ofori, during an interview on Eyewitness News on Friday, June 21, emphasized that the revenue authority should present data to support why SML should maintain its current operations or be assimilated into existing monitoring systems like the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS).
“Assuming GRA through their ICUMS or the data that they’ve collected comes out and also lets us know that during the period that the SML transaction was suspended, this was the leakage or the revenue losses that we were expecting that the nation didn’t get.
“That at least gives a strong baseline for which we can make some form of comparison and build a strong case as to why SML should continue in this form or SML should be integrated into the existing ERDMS and ICUMS systems that we already have,” Dr Ofori stated.
