Robert L. Adams, Sr was well-known as the husband of American soul, blues and R&B singer, Peggy Scott-Adams.

Robert Adams was born on August 18, 1931 in Centralia, Illinois to Lonnie Guy and Katie Elizabeth.

Following High School, Adams served in the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge from the military, he moved to California and finished schooling.

Adams met and married Dorothy June Darrell, who died in 1984. They had five children; Cheryl, Robert Jr., Laurence, Donna and Sandra.

In 1972, Adams established the Robert L. Adams Mortuary in Compton, California. He was then elected as Third District Councilman in Compton in 1977, where he served three terms. Many of the major commercial and housing developments in the City were built under Bob’s leadership.

In 1988, Robert Adams married Peggy Scott and remained until his death. Adams was an active member of the California State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association.

Robert L. Adams, Sr died on February 12, 2005 at Kaiser Hospital in Bellflower, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Guy and Katie Elizabeth; sisters, Katherine Elizabeth, Mary Lacy and Dorothy (John) Jefferson; brothers, Lawrence (Hazel), William and James (Lula).

Adams was survived by his children, and his brother Charles Adams. His wife Peggy Scott-Adams died on March 27, 2023, at age 74 in California, United States.
