Peter Kay Illness: What Condition Does Peter Kay Have?

Comedy legend Peter Kay, 48, disappeared from our screens in 2017. With only a few appearances since then, local fans remain concerned about his health and well-being.

The comedian has shared extremely little about his step away from the limelight announcing the cancellation of his last tour due to “unforeseen family circumstances”. The star has made some scarce appearances since then.

In 2018, Kay also made a surprise in-person appearance to announce a charity special for his award-winning sitcom Peter Kay’s Car Share.

The special episode was in aid of The Lily Foundation which helps children with mitochondrial disease.

Breaking his silence on Twitter the star said he had “first-hand experience” of the charity’s work and that he was “proud to raise awareness and much-needed funds”.

Mitochondrial disease is the umbrella term given to a group of disorders caused by mutations in mitochondria, which are present in nearly every cell in our bodies.
