Peter Britton Tobin was a convicted serial killer and sex offender from Scotland. Peter Tobin was married and divorced three times.

Peter Tobin married his first wife 17-year-old girlfriend, clerk and typist Margaret Louise Robertson Mountney in August 1969. After a year, they divorced, and she divorced him in 1971.

Tobin married Sylvia Jefferies, a 30-year-old local nurse, in 1973. The couple had a son and a daughter, with the latter dying soon after birth. This second violent marriage lasted until Sylvia left with their son in 1976.

Tobin then began dating Cathy Wilson; the couple married in 1989, and a son was born later that year. They relocated to Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland, in 1990. Wilson divorced Tobin in 1990 and returned to Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, where she grew up.

All three wives later told similar stories about falling for a charming, well-dressed psychopath who became violent and sadistic during their marriages.

Tobin moved to Margate, Kent, in May 1991, and then to Havant, Hampshire, in 1993, to be closer to his younger son.
