Philip Margo is an American musician and author who was a longtime member of The Tokens.

They are most known for their hit single “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961 and stayed there for three weeks.
“Tonight I Fell In Love,” “I Hear Trumpets Blow,” “He’s In Town,” and “Portrait of My Love” were among The Tokens’ other singles.
The musician died over the weekend as a result of complications from a stroke.
Margo’s death was announced in a lengthy post on Facebook by “The Tokens.”

“With a final roar, we announce the passing of our incredible lion, Philip Margo. Phil died yesterday surrounded by his beloved family,” the band wrote.

Margo was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. After forming the world-famous group “The Tokens” with his younger brother Mitch, he began his musical career.

Philip Margo and his wife Abbie S. Margo had three children. Two sons, Noah Margo and Joshua Ginsberg-Margo and a daughter, Neely S. Irwin.
Noah, the singer’s son, played drums for the band for 25 years. Neely, his daughter, was also a member of the band on multiple occasions.
Solomon and Ethan, his grandkids, also had the opportunity to perform with their grandfather before he passed away.
