Pokémon series star and voice actress Rachael Lillis dies at 46

Rachael Lillis, the beloved voice actress known for her iconic roles in the Pokémon series, has passed away at the age of 46 after a battle with breast cancer.

Lillis died from the disease in Los Angeles on August 10, 2024.

Lillis, who voiced key characters like Misty and Jessie, made a significant impact on fans of the series with her exceptional voice work across TV shows, films, and video games dating back to the late 1990s.

Her contribution extended to 423 episodes of Pokémon, including her role as Jigglypuff in various media, such as the 2019 film Detective Pikachu and the Super Smash Bros video game series.

The news of her passing was shared by Veronica Taylor, who voiced Ash Ketchum on the show. Taylor described Lillis as an “extraordinary talent” with a “bright light” that shone through her voice, both in speaking and singing.

Taylor also noted Lillis’s appreciation for the support she received during her illness, which made a positive difference in her life.

Lillis’s sister, Laurie Orr, confirmed the death on a fundraising site dedicated to her cancer treatment, expressing profound grief and sorrow. Lillis was born in Niagara Falls, New York, in 1978 and trained in opera before transitioning to voice acting.

A memorial service is being planned to honor her memory.
