Layla Elabed is one of the 13 siblings of Rashida Tlaib, an American politician and lawyer serving as the U.S. representative for Michigan’s 12th congressional district since 2019 (known as the 13th congressional district until 2023).

According to her LinkedIn profile, Layla Elabed is a coordinator with the sexual assault prevention program at ACCESS, otherwise known as the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services, in Dearborn.
In January 2019, Rashida lamented on Twitter that the right wing media was targeting Layla, her little sister.

Layla is the mother of 3, a published writer & poet, and is a sexual assault advocate for survivors like herself. For years she was forced to go through extra screening at the airport because of unconstitutional processes.

The posts did not name the media outlet or outlets, or the exact nature of what may have occurred. But in an interview later, Tlaib said the harassment took the form of repeated calls to her sister on whether she was on the nation’s no-fly list.
