Rhoda Morgenstern: Who was Mary Tyler Moores best friend?

Mary’s closest friend and upstairs neighbor is Rhoda Morgenstern (Valerie Harper) (1970-1974) (Seasons 1-4, 6 & 7 Guest). She works as a window dresser at two different department stores, Hempel’s and the made-up Bloomfield’s. While self-conscious about her appearance, she is nevertheless gregarious and sarcastic, constantly cracking jokes about herself. Rhoda, like Mary, is not married. She dates regularly and constantly makes jokes about her bad dates. After the fourth season, Rhoda relocates to New York City and experiences love, which sparks the creation of the spinoff series Rhoda.
