Robert Kyoung Hur is an American lawyer who served as the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland from 2018 to 2021. He previously served as Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General with the U.S. Department of Justice.

Robert Hur’s parents: Meet Dr. Young Hur & Haesook Hur

Hur was born in New York City to South Korean parents, Dr. Young Hur, an anesthesiologist, and Haesook Hur, who works for Young as his office manager. Hur studied English and American literature at Harvard University, graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, with high honors.

Before his appointment, Mr. Hur was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, and Co-Chair of the Firm’s Crisis Management Practice Group. A seasoned trial lawyer and advocate, he brought decades of experience in government and private practice, including service in senior leadership positions with the U.S.

Department of Justice, to guide companies and individuals facing white-collar criminal matters, regulatory proceedings, enforcement actions, internal investigations, and related civil litigation. He was also a member of the firm’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice Group and the National Security Practice Group.
