Simon Robert Key, born on April 22, 1945, was a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. He was the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Salisbury, Wiltshire.

From 1983 to 2010, Robert was the MP for Salisbury and held several positions within Conservative governments, including Minister for Local Government and Inner Cities and Minister for Roads and Traffic.

He was proud of the city of Salisbury and worked hard to promote it in the best light possible. After retiring from front-line politics, he remained active in the community and was involved in a variety of organizations.

He was the son of John Maurice Key, the 10th Bishop of Truro from 1960 to 1973, and the Bishop of Sherborne from 1947 to 1960. In Perth, he married Susan Irvine in 1968. They had one son and two daughters and lived in Harnham. He was a devout choral singer and Church of England, member.
In 1979, he ran for the Holborn and St Pancras South constituency. Between 1983 and 2010, he served as the Member of Parliament for Salisbury. He was Minister for Local Government and Inner Cities in the Department of the Environment (now DEFRA) from 1990-2, establishing the Inner Cities Religious Council in 1991, and Minister for Sport in the Department of National Heritage (now Culture, Media and Sport) from 1992-3. From 1993 to 1994, he was the Minister of Roads and Traffic.
