Tragically, Robyn Broughton, a well-known netball coach from New Zealand, has died. Broughton, who received the MNZM and ONZM awards, excelled in New Zealand’s top domestic championships and rose to fame as a legendary figure in Southland netball. She passed away at the age of 80 after a brief illness.

Broughton was instrumental in making Invercargill well-known from 1998 to 2007 while she served as the Southern Sting’s head coach. Netball flourished under her direction, garnering a passionate fan base and dominating regional media coverage.

Broughton’s track record speaks for itself; while serving as coach, she guided the Sting to win in a record-breaking seven Coca-Cola/National Bank Cup championships.
