Santoro’s journey began in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro state, where he was born to parents Francesco Santoro and Maria José Junqueira dos Reis. His roots reflect a fascinating blend of Italian and Brazilian heritage.

His father, Francesco Santoro, was an Italian engineer with a family history connected to Paola in the Province of Cosenza, Calabria. On the other hand, his mother, Maria José Junqueira dos Reis, is a Brazilian artist with a lineage steeped in Portuguese ancestry.

In 1993, while pursuing a degree in Journalism at PUC-Rio, Rodrigo Santoro embarked on his journey into the world of acting. He took a significant step by enrolling in the Actor’s Workshop of Rede Globo, one of Brazil’s most prominent television networks.

Throughout his career, Rodrigo Santoro has played pivotal roles in numerous telenovelas produced by Globo, earning him recognition and adoration from television audiences.

While his early work in Brazilian television was impressive, it was his transition to international cinema that truly set him on the path to global stardom. Notably, his portrayal of the Persian King Xerxes in the epic film “300” in 2006 and its sequel “300: Rise of an Empire” in 2014 established him as an actor with international appeal.
