A boxer and actor from the United States, Roy Scheider passed away on February 10, 2008. He rose to recognition for his major and supporting roles in well-known films from the 1970s through the early to mid-1980s, earning him the title of “one of the most distinctive and distinguished of all Hollywood actors” according to AllMovie. In addition to the Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards, he received nominations for two Academy Awards.

He participated in two immensely well-liked movies in 1971: The French Connection (1971), which was directed by William Friedkin, and Alan Pakula’s Klute (1971). He received an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor for the later performance, in which he took on the role of a fictionalized Sonny Grosso, a detective in New York City.

Molly, Christian, and Maximillia were Scheider’s three children. The horror film The Curse of the Living Corpse from 1964 featured Scheider in his debut role.

He appeared in character roles in episodes of Camera Three, N.Y.P.D., and Coronet Blue in addition to playing running roles on the CBS soap operas Love of Life and The Secret Storm. He appeared in the 1966 television film Lamp at Midnight.
