Ruben Douglas, a beloved basketball figure renowned for his exceptional career at the University of New Mexico, has passed away at the age of 44.

The news of his death was confirmed by the Journal, with reports indicating that he died on April 12, 2024, while in Costa Rica.
Douglas, originally from Altadena, Calif., made a lasting impact during his three seasons with the Lobos from 2000 to 2003. He was not only known for his basketball prowess but also for his infectious humor and charismatic personality both on and off the court.
According to his older brother, Ramon Douglas, Ruben had been splitting his time between Costa Rica and Arizona before falling ill during his recent trip to Costa Rica.
Despite efforts to determine the exact cause of his death, his family remains uncertain about the nature of the infection that claimed his life.
