Russell Watt Obituary

Russell Watt a former All Blacks back passed away on 25 June 2022 in Silverstream, at the age of 86.

According to his family, Watt died “very very peacefully at the Home of Compassion, Silverstream, with wife Betty by his side,”

Russell Watt is survived by his wife Betty, their two children and three grandchildren.

Russell Watt spent the majority of his All Blacks career on the wing, scoring 28 tries in 42 All Black appearances between 1957 and 1962.

Watt appeared in nine test matches for the All Blacks, making his debut against Australia in 1958.

Watt attended Otago Boys’ High School and played for the Dunedin Kaikorai club before making his debut for Otago in 1955.

He went on to represent Southland and Wellington before his abilities were recognised by national selectors, and he made his debut in the black jersey against New South Wales in 1957.

The tour of South Africa with the All Blacks in 1960 was the pinnacle of his All Blacks career. Watt appeared in all 19 games and four tests.
