Sharon Horgan is an Irish actress, writer, and producer. She is the daughter of Ursula Horgan and John Horgan.

She was born in the London borough of Hackney. Her father is from New Zealand, and her mother is Irish. Her parents relocated the family to Bellewstown, County Meath, Ireland, when she was four years old to run a turkey farm.
Horgan, one of five siblings, later used her childhood experiences for Sky Arts 1’s semi-autobiographical short film The Week Before Christmas. Horgan attended Drogheda’s Sacred Heart convent school.

Sharon Horgan began her career as a writer and performer in the early 2000s. She co-wrote and starred in the British television series “Pulling” (2006-2009), which earned her critical acclaim and several awards.

In 2015, Horgan co-created and co-wrote the comedy series “Catastrophe” with American comedian Rob Delaney.
Besides “Catastrophe,” Horgan has worked on various other projects. She created and starred in the HBO comedy series “Divorce” (2016-2019), alongside Sarah Jessica Parker
In addition to her acting and writing, Horgan has produced several television shows through her production company, Merman. Some notable productions include “Motherland,” “This Way Up,” and “Women on the Verge.”
