British Olympian, Shaun Pickering has been reported dead. His cause of death was not announced, however, it is well-known that he died at age 61. His death was announced on Thursday, May 11, 2023.

Born on November 14, 1961, Shaun Pickering was a shot putter who represented Great Britain in the Olympic Games and Wales in the Commonwealth Games.
He was a member of the Welsh Athletics Hall of Fame. He won 5 Welsh shot put titles, 5 Welsh discus throw titles, and 9 Welsh hammer throw titles.
Pickering also won a Bronze medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games representing Wales and finished 27th at the 1998 Olympics. He was the son of British commentator, Ron Pickering and Olympian Jean Pickering.
Tributes have been pouring in since the announcement of his death was made.

“Incredibly sad news to wake up to. Shaun was a really good man and a pillar of the athletics community. He will deeply be missed,” Olympic Gold Medalist, Greg Rutherford wrote in a social media post.
The Welsh Athletics social media page also expressed their condolences;
“Everyone at Welsh Athletics is sad to hear the news that ‘Hall of Fame’ inductee, multiple Welsh Champion, and record holder, Shaun Pickering has passed away. Our thoughts are with Shaun’s friends and family at this sad time,” the post read.
“It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing today of our beloved Shaun Pickering. Shaun did so much for athletics and to carry on the amazing legacy of his parents Ron and Jen. All our hearts go out to Shaun’s family and friends at this dreadfully sad time,” The Shaun Pickering Memorial Fund, a Charity aimed at helping aspiring British Athletes, also wrote.
“Everyone at Brits Athletics is so saddened to hear this news today. Shaun loved the sport passionately and cared deeply for the athletes and his many friends across the sport,” the Official Twitter page of British Athletics also wrote.
