Sir Ivan Menezes, the long-serving CEO of Diageo, a large beverage corporation, died after a brief illness at the age of 63. In the first New Year’s Honours list, the King knighted him, and he had been running the corporation since 2013, overseeing the manufacturing of popular brands such as Guinness and Johnnie Walker.

The company said on Monday that Debra Crew, the incoming CEO, had taken over a month earlier than planned due to complications from Sir Ivan’s emergency surgery for a stomach ulcer.
Diageo’s stock price has climbed by around 23% over the last five years, mainly to rising demand for high-end spirits both before and during the epidemic.

The company’s sales increased by 21.4% to £15.5 billion in the year leading up to June 2022.

Sir Ivan’s death was mourned by Diageo chairman Javier Ferrán, who described him as “one of the most exceptional leaders of his generation.” Sir Ivan spent 25 years establishing Diageo as one of the most successful and recognized consumer goods firms, having been there since its beginning.
Ferrán witnessed Sir Ivan’s constant commitment to the company’s personnel and the creation of a culture that encouraged growth and development for everybody.
