Sophia Smith is an American professional soccer player. She is the daughter of Mollie Smith and Kenny Smith.

She has two older sisters, Gabrielle and Savannah. She comes from an athletic family. Her sister Savannah Smith played basketball at the University of Northern Colorado, while her father played basketball at the University of Wyoming.
Sophia Smith went to Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins, Colorado, where she was named First-Team All-Conference her freshman year.
She began playing collegiate football at Stanford University in 2018, scoring 7 goals that season and 17 the following season. In the 2019 College Cup, she scored a hat-trick to help Stanford overcome UCLA in the semifinal.

In January 2020, Sophia Smith made history when she was selected as the number one overall pick in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft by the Portland Thorns FC.
This made her the first overall pick in the inaugural NWSL College Draft for players who had not yet completed their collegiate eligibility. Her selection was a testament to her exceptional skill and the high regard she was held in by NWSL teams.
