Stephanie Mercado was born on July 1, 1989 in Philippines.
She is the daughter of Paul Mercado and Lydia de Vega-Mercado.
Her mother Lydia de Vega-Mercado was a Filipino athlete who was considered Asia’s fastest woman in the 1980s, while her father Paul Mercado is a former engineer at Meralco and an entrepreneur engaged in fish pond business. She has three siblings.

Stephanie Mercado earned a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Business Studies minor in Marketing Communications from De La Salle University in 2011. She played on the De La Salle University team Lady Spikers.
Between March 2014 and March 2018, she worked as Marketing Communications Staff at MERALCO in Ortigas Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Mercado served as the team captain for the Cignal HD Spikers from October 2016 to December 2017.
In 2018, she signed with the team Petro Gazz Angels, in the Premier Volleyball League.
Stephanie Mercado has been married to David Abesamis Koenigswarter since 2020.
