After joining the Chicago-based comedic troupe The Second City in 1991, Steve Carell performed with fellow comic Stephen Colbert. Then he made his acting debut in the movie Curly Sue and appeared on the short-lived sketch comedy program The Dana Carvey Show.

Carell and Colbert played Gary in Robert Smigel’s animated short, The Ambiguously Gay Duo, which aired on Saturday Night Live.
Carell worked as a correspondent for The Daily Show from 1999 until 2005, when he frequently appeared in segments with Stephen Colbert and “Produce Pete.”
