In 2015, during a routine optician’s appointment, Steve Cooper’s life took an unexpected turn. It was here that he was alerted to a problem with his eyes. The diagnosis revealed macular degeneration, a condition that, at the time, had no treatment or intervention. This revelation cast a shadow over his vision, but amidst the uncertainty, Cooper found solace and support through his local Macular Society group. The experience transformed his perspective, and he emerged with newfound strength and resilience.

Steve Cooper’s Disability and Myasthenia Gravis

Steve Cooper, despite facing challenges with his eyes, also confronts another obstacle—Myasthenia Gravis. This chronic autoimmune disorder disrupts communication between nerves and muscles, leading to weakness, particularly in voluntary muscles controlling the eyes, mouth, throat, and limbs.
