Julia Misley’s lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, December 27 2022, under a 2019 California law that gave adult victims of childhood sexual assault a three-year window to file lawsuits for decades-old assaults.
Ms Misley, formerly known as Julia Holcomb, said in a statement that she wanted to seize “a new opportunity to take legal action against those that abused me in my youth”.

While the lawsuit does not name Mr Tyler, Ms Misley identified him in the statement issued by the law firm Jeff Anderson & Associates.

She has previously spoken about her experiences with Mr Tyler, and Tyler has written about a relationship with a teenage girl in two books published in 2011 and 1997.
According to the lawsuit, Ms Misley became pregnant in 1975 as a result of sex with Mr Tyler, and he later coerced her into having an abortion. Mr Tyler further harmed Ms Misley by publishing memoirs that detailed aspects of their relationship without her knowledge or consent.
According to the lawsuit, doing so exposed Ms Misley to public attention and scrutiny, which retraumatized her and made it more difficult for her to recover. The lawsuit seeks monetary compensation of an unspecified amount.
