Susan Scott Rae, a Scottish newsreader and continuity announcer for BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3, and BBC Radio 4 Extra was born on June 2, 1956.

Rae attended Edinburgh University to study English after being born and reared in Dundee. She dropped out of school before her finals and started working for D. C. Thomson newspapers in Dundee, Scotland, before accepting a position at BBC Radio Aberdeen.
She stayed there for three years before moving to London in the early 1980s to work as a continuity announcer and newsreader for BBC Radio 4.

The reception to her voice on Radio 4 then was unfavorable; some listeners thought the BBC’s dedication to correct pronunciation was waning.
She transitioned to daytime television later in the decade and maintained her voiceover work when Open Air ended.
When Susan Rae returned to BBC Radio 4 in 2003, she had been working on the BBC World Service since roughly 2000.
