He plays as a forward for Premier League club Nottingham Forest and the Nigeria national team.

Awoniyi was spotted by Seyi Olofinjana a former Nigerian footballer after playing in the 2010 Coca-Cola football competition in London.

After being voted the Most Valuable Player at the competition, Olofinjana invited Awoniyi to join the Imperial Soccer Academy where he rose to become a professional footballer.

Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest on June 25, 2022 for a reported fee of £17 million.

The 25-year-old sustained the injury in Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 away win against Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium earlier in January 2023.

Awoniyi made his comeback from injury as Nottingham Forest were held to a 1-1 draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Premier League game at the City Ground on Saturday, April 1.
