Since 2011, Cypress has been married to Tom Dillon. They have one child and reside in New Jersey with their many dogs and cats. Cypress revealed in the documentary Queer for Fear that she is attracted to women.

Tawny Cypress was previously married to Bill Charles (2000 – 2004). Tawny Cypress has been in a relationship with Tom Dillon (2007) and Tom Dillon.

Cypress’s mother was of Hungarian descent, and her father was black, her native American descended from the Akaumakke tribe on the east coast of Virginia. Cypress still lives in her native New Jersey.

She spent her childhood in the Jersey coastal communities of Sea Girts, Belmar, and Red Bank. She attended the Mason Gross School of Art at Rutgers University.
